"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad, You're mad"
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."
(Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Chapter 6)
The production, adapted for the stage by Eva le
Gallienne and Florida Friebus, debuted on Broadway in 1932. In
this version, Alice enters Wonderland through a looking glass rather
than a rabbit-hole, but it is still the bustling White Rabbit who leads
her into a first act brimming with such favorite scenes from
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland as the Caucus Race, her
encounters with the Caterpillar and the Cheshire Cat, the Mad Tea Party,
and the Queen of Heart's Croquet Game. But the fun doesn't end there! In
Act Two, Alice finds herself traveling, rather hurriedly, through the
chessboard realm of Through the Looking Glass.
Will the Red and White Queens, Tweedledum and Tweedledee, Humpty Dumpty
and others help her to reach the final square and become a queen
herself?
