Auditions will be held at the JRT Warehouse: 1533 Persimmon Ridge Rd, Jonesborough, TN
2 weeks of rehearsal
7 total performances over one weekend, November 16-19.
No singing. No dancing. No blocking. No memorized lines.
Casting those 18 years and up.
Each actor will be expected to perform 2 to 7 different characters, with 2 to 7 different voices.
The play, based on the film starring James Stewart and Donna Reed, is set in Bedford Falls, a small New England town, circa 1920 to 1945. All cast members will be dressed in 1940s costumes. Men may be asked to shave a beard or moustache or get a haircut. Women may be asked to adopt an appropriate hairstyle for the period.
Sides will be provided at the audition. Don't prepare anything. Actors will audition behind a dressing screen, out of sight of the director and casting director, because it's all about the voice. What you look like and how you dress for the audition does not matter, as long as your voice is right for the character.
The play is staged in the 1940s, in a radio studio in New York City, and everyone in the cast are professional voice actors who come to the studio to work but may not know what they will be reading that day.
Vocal flexibility is all important.
Also seeking the role of the Production Stage Manager and Asst. Stage Manager. They are broadcast professionals at the radio studio, and they will be onstage throughout the play. Their characters have dialogue, and most importantly, perform all the sound effects for the show LIVE, using physical props to mimic telephones, footsteps, clocks, bells, wind and rain. Just as it was done on live radio in the 1940s.
