Auditions for WAIT UNTIL DARK

Auditions for the upcoming production of WAIT UNTIL DARK at JRT are Sunday and Monday, Aug. 11-12, at 7 p.m. at the Stage Door (next to the theatre). Auditions will include reading from the audition sides (posted below) as well as cold readings from the script.

Rehearsals will begin Sept. 1 and, depending on the week, will be three, four, or five nights per week. The typical rehearsal schedule is Sunday – Wednesday evenings from 7-9:15 p.m.

Those interested in more information are encouraged to email Joe Smith, director of “Wait Until Dark,” at wrenmarston37604@gmail.com.

NOTE: Ages are approximate; flexibility will be exercised in casting.

Susan (female, late 20s/early 30s, star vehicle role). The character is blind and exhibits extreme moments of both bravery as well as absolute fear and vulnerability. Experienced actress needed.

Roat (male, late 30s-early 40s, lead male role). One of the meanest characters ever to appear on stage. Calculating, menacing, dangerous, truly evil.

Mike (male, late 30s-early 50s, lead male role). Claims to be a friend of Susan’s husband and offers his help. Friend…or foe? Actor needs to be capable of playing both. Charismatic, dashing man who keeps his cards close to his chest.

Carlino (male, late 20s and up, strong supporting role) – Recently out of prison and needing to make money. Not the brightest bulb but definitely not someone you would want to cross. Clumsy.

Gloria (female youth, high-school/early college age, strong supporting role) – Troubled young girl who lives upstairs from the Hendrix family. Life has not been kind to her. She becomes intricately involved in helping Susan outwit the criminals.  NOTE: This role will be double-cast and the actresses will split the number of performances.

Sam (male, 30s, supporting role) – Susan’s husband. He has pushed Susan to achieve independence and self-sufficiency in her world of blindness. And that proves to be a lifesaving skill for Susan.

Lisa (female, middle age, non-speaking bit role) – If only she had given the doll to Roat…
